Prayer4Britain Saturday 23rd January

January 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Lewis Houston writes on behalf of Northants4Jesus

Our next bi-monthly prayer will be held via Zoom and log in details will be sent out next week. The need for prayer for our nation, the government and the church is self-evident and you are warmly invited to join us. P4B has been organized, along with the Tuesday Bible Study and prayer, by a group of active and semi retired leaders who have been meeting since the cancellation of an large evangelistic event some years back. We have decided to drop the word ‘leaders’ from our name and henceforth will be Northants4Jesus, which reflects our kingdom desire to pray for a harvest in our county.
How do we approach this new year of 2021? Glad to say goodbye to 2020 or concerned that this year may be worse. As I considered what to write by way of introduction, these encouraging words came from a pastor friend in a war torn African country.
Rom 11 : 26 ‘’The Deliverer will come from Zion …’’
The apostle Paul, when citing the above Old Testament verse in his New Testament epistle, adapts it by substituting the word Deliverer for Redeemer. The evangelist of the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah (59 :20) highlights the redeeming work of Christ. The coming of the Son of God into the world, celebrated world-wide every 25 December, is good news for mankind. For Paul, redemption is certainly a part of it, but there is still more. Deliverance (freedom), is what Jesus bestows on all who believe in him. And he knows how much the world is in need of it. His ‘’Nazareth Manifesto’’ includes the words : ‘’come to free the captives’’. Deliverance from hegemonic powers, from lies broadcast by the media, from dark thinking and ideologies, from growing world-wide racist hostility, from the grip of spiritual forces of wickedness, from godless projects being pushed by lobby groups, from pandemics generated to promote eugenic policies, etc. …
May the Lord, by his Spirit, give discernment to his people and his church. We should not have any fear concerning 2021. The Lord proclaimed his peace into the hearts of his disciples (Jn 14 :1). The angels, when they announced the good news to the shepherds, also sang of peace on earth among men who are loved by God (Lk 2 :14). God is in control of everything that is happening in the world. As it rightly says in the Bible : ‘’The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him’’ (Hab 2 :20).
Let us keep our eyes on Him as we pray our way through these times. From the Word and by His Spirit may we continue in obedience, humility, faith and courage to the glory of the Lord Jesus.
